The catering industry as a whole has a long history of using a LOT of “single-use” plastic plates, cups, cutlery, etc… not really great for our planet. In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint we have moved away from products that negatively affect rain-forests and also contribute to the growing problems in our landfills and oceans.
We have chosen to go with three beautiful, strong, and environmentally responsible materials:
1. PALMWARE is a beautiful patterned option made from fallen palm leaves. It is both biodegradable and compostable.
2. BAGASSE is made from Sugarcane pulp after they extract the sugar. It is also biodegradable and compostable. These are a perfect replacement for our paper/Chinet plates.
3. PLA (polylactic acid) plastic is a biodegradable plastic made from renewable “biomass” from corn. This is what many of our plastic lids, cups, and cutlery are made of.
While most of these innovative products are still a little challenging to get your hands on as a retail consumer, some stores such as Whole Foods, are also starting to offer them. We believe everybody should consider them when planning your own personal gatherings.
We hope that we can also help this movement trend with other catering companies that may see our product and encourage them to make more “ecologically-minded” choices. Let’s make an impact!
