In the world of catering, we see, first hand, how a good meal brings people together to share a universal experience… How “breaking bread” opens the floor to sharing stories and forging understanding and compassion. Food is, of course, a necessity for life. But it is also a means to love.
The word “Copia” is Latin for “abundance.” Year-to-year, we serve an abundance of food to and for our beloved customers. As a business invested in our community, the question of how we can better impact those in need is always at play. Recently, we were given the opportunity to partner with COPIA Food Recovery Service—a growing program, self-tasked with solving what they refer to as “the world’s dumbest problem,” HUNGER. For the problem of feeding the hungry does not come from scarcity of food, but from the logistical difficulties involved with getting that food to those most in need of a meal. COPIA helps businesses like ours redistribute high-quality excess food using a unique technological platform that provides planning, connections to local food banks and shelters, and delivery services.
Since COPIA’s founding in 2016, over one million pounds of food have been recovered, for over 900,000 delivered meals! In late August, we successfully completed our first of many donations through COPIA. 25 pounds of food: enough for 21 meals, which were delivered to the Springs Rescue Mission, an incredible nonprofit that offers daily meals and year-round shelter to homeless individuals in our community. We are so appreciative of this opportunity to give back and assist our community in such a food-centric way. We look forward to continuing to play a small role in solving the issue of hunger in our neighborhoods, and beyond. Food is love.
